Tony Taylor Trophy 2017 – Trophy Retained!

The 2017 TTT competition was organised by 41 Club on Wednesday 19th July. This year was to be a crown green bowling competition at Stafford Bowling Club. We had a bit of light drizzle during the evening but this did not stop our hardy bowlers from competing for the trophy.

Martin and Nick in a close match

Eight singles matches were played for the trophy, after which several ‘friendly’ games were played. We also welcomed our Regional Councillor, Nick Morcumb, to the event. He opted to play for Stafford Round Table as he was closer to Round Table age than most of us. Fortunately his opponent in the match, Martin Woodhead, proved too good for him, winning 11-7.

The final outcome was quite conclusive with 41 Club winning 6 of the eight matches, bowls must suit the more mature player!!

Chairman Mike and Chairman Jon

After the match we enjoyed a buffet and then Chairman Mike announced the result and invited RT Chairman Jon Gerrard to present the trophy back to 41 Club. Jon said he had asked his girlfriend to get some things together to present to Mike and had stipulated they were to be appropriate for a Chairman of 41 Club. He then presented our Chairman with an (old) pair of slippers, some Werthers Originals, Horlicks, corn plasters and finally a bottle of Chateauneuf Du Pape. The last item was received by Mike with great pleasure! Jon then represented the Tony Taylor trophy.

Tony Taylor Trophy back where it belongs

The remainder of the evening was spent enjoying good fellowship, several beers and some more bowls under the floodlights. Thanks to Chairman Mike for organising a great evening and to Mike Thomas for organising the bowling, as well as coaching and refereeing the matches.
