A great night was had at Stafford Castle Golf Club on Wednesday 17th December when we held our Christmas Meeting.

Our guests included Jim Smith – National President and a member of Bishop Stortford and Eastern Promise 41 Clubs; as well as members from Eccleshall and Newport 41 Clubs and past Stafford Tablers (future Stafford 41 Club members!).

Grace was said by Steve Ashton before 34 members and guests sat down to a three course meal plus mince pies and coffee.

After the meal Mike Smith announced that the raffle would be included in the cost of the evening to keep things simple; a clever move to make sure everyone bought a ticket!

Chairman Peter then announced that there was some business, to remarks like “what, at the Christmas meeting!” and a comment from the Secretary that he was not taking minutes! The only business to be conducted was the presentation of a cheque for £1,000 to the National President for his charity appeal, Anthony Nolan.

President Jim thanked us on behalf of Anthony Nolan for the donation and also for our efforts in organising the Regional Lunch. He regaled us with a few stories and also gave some background as to how Round Table and 41 Clubs have helped Anthony Nolan over the last 40 years.

During his address Jim said he was pleased to meet David Orme this evening as he was one of only 15 holders of the Association Award. David was presented this award in our 50th year (2011) after serving 25 years as our Secretary and Treasurer. It was presented by the late National President, Vaughan Harris who sadly died in September after a short illness.
